The most popular are the Patras carnival, which is the largest event for that season in Greece and one of the biggest in Europe, The Tyrnavos Carnival in Thessaly, the Xanthi Carnival in Northeastern Greece in which over 40 cultural associations participate and many others all over Greece. All are connected with plenty of local wine, tsipouro and delicacies.

The March 25th - Independence Day and the Feast of the Annunciation. The two holidays are celebrated simultaneously in Greece. Regarding the Independence Day there are military parades. For the Greek Orthodox Church this day is the day that the archangel Gabriel appeared to the maiden Mary and announced the news, that "she was pregnant with the divine child". The day is exactly 9 months before Christmas. The religious celebration is especially important on the islands of Tinos and Hydra and in Churches and Monasteries named Evangelismos or Evangelistria.

Holy Week - Orthodox Easter aka Pascha in Greece is the biggest holiday of the year with traditions and the Greek Orthodox Church playing the major role. The week leading up to Easter known as Holy or 'Big' Week, churches hold services every day, and traditionally people fast and no meat, oil or dairy products are eaten until midnight on Easter Saturday, after the symbolic Resurrection.
On Holy Thursday, women dye eggs red to symbolize the blood of Christ, and bake Easter bread (Tsoureki).
The most sacred day and day of mourning is the holy Friday (Good Friday), the day of Christ's Funeral. The funeral bier (Epitafios) is being decorated with flowers and paraded through the village or town streets.
The Resurrection -Anastasi- takes place at midnight on Holy Saturday. The whole of Greece attends church for the service and the lighting of the Holy Flame to take later the lit candles home and
celebrate with family and friends eating the traditional Mageiritsa soup (meat soup).
On Easter Sunday the celebration goes on with the roasting of lamb, wine, music and dancing all day long.
